Many West Virginian students have family members who are veterans or who actively serve in the National Guard, Reserve, or components of the United States armed forces. Oftentimes, these families relocate multiple times throughout a child’s school years to meet a family member’s duty requirements, and there are times when students experience the absence of a loved one while he or she is on deployment. Schools are in the position to meet the unique social and emotional needs of these children.
